Ancient Order Of the Dragon Award Criteria


1.  Nominating Criteria. In order to be nominated for the Ancient OOD an individual must:

  • Be a current member of the CCRA with special consideration given to Life Membership in the CCRA.
     

  • Have contributed conspicuous long-term service to the Chemical Corp and the CCRA throughout a distinguished career with special consideration to service continuing after retirement.
     

  • Have completed 20+ years in service to the Chemical Corps and the CCRA.
     

  • Be honorably retired as an LTC, SFC, GS-12 or higher rank or grade.
     

  • Have maintained the highest standards of personal conduct throughout his/her career.


2.  Eligibility.  In order to be eligible for the Ancient OOD an individual must:

  • Be or have been a member of the Chemical Corps in an active, National Guard, or reserve status for the majority of their career.
     

  • Be or have been a member of the U.S. Armed Forces or Department of Defense who provided continuing service to the Chemical Corps and/or CBRN readiness for the majority of their career.


3.  Nomination.  Nomination for the Ancient OOD must be by a Chemical Corps LTC or higher rank who is a member of the CCRA, or by an Officer of the CCRA.

4.  Approval of Nomination.  Approval of the nomination for the Ancient OOD will be by the first Chemical Corps O6 in the Chain of Command or Responsibility who is a member of the CCRA, or by an Officer of the CCRA. If there is no Chemical Corps Colonel in the Chain of Command or Responsibility, the Assistant Commandant, U.S. Army Chemical School is the approving authority. Approval authority for the Ancient OOD will not be delegated below this rank.

5.  Approval by Board Recommendation to the Chief of Chemical.  Approval of the Ancient OOD will be by the Chief of Chemical as recommended by an annual Selection Board.  The Chief of Chemical may call a Special Selection Board if he/she deems necessary and appropriate.

6.  Submission of Awards. Nominations for the Ancient OOD will be submitted by the nominator through the CCRA Web Site. Submissions will include as minimum:

  • Date of request.

  • Name and information for the requestor.

  • Name and information of the nominee.

  • One-two page justification/biography of/for the nominee.

  • Identification of Award accouterments desired and cost.

7.  Selection Process.  Each year the Chief of Chemical will appoint a Ancient OOD Selection Board to review and recommend nominees for the Ancient OOD.  The selection board will be composed of Senior Leaders who have served in positions of major responsibility involving Chemical functions.  The board will consist of seven voting members. The CCRA VP BM will be the President of the Board and six members at large will be appointed. A concerted effort will be made to ensure that board demographics include active, retired, officer, enlisted, female and minority members.

 8. Accouterments.  Accouterments for the Ancient Order of the Dragon will include:

  • Official Medallion (silver in color) with distinctive neck ribbon.

  • Official Certificate.

  • Other as approved by the CCRA Board of Governors.

Awardees are responsible for purchase of their accouterments.
