Created in 2004 to recognize one Soldier and one Non-commissioned Officer as the top NCO/Soldier for the Chemical Corps. The name Dragons Peak was given to the competition to signify that it is the highest stature a dragon soldier could attain. To achieve this status the soldier had to be recommended by his or her chain of command, endorsed by a Sergeant Major, and complete in several tasks including CTT, weapons qualification, APFT; and a written exam that covered basic knowledge that every chemical soldier should know.
The Chemical Corps Regimental Association, in conjunction with the Regimental Command Sergeant Major had to make a decision about what would be the most fitting award to depict this honor. After much discussion is was decided that CSM retired George Murray best represents the Chemical Corps and the title of Soldier/NCO of the year. For this reason, the CCRA Commissioned an artist to create a bust of CSM Murray for the award.
